Dr. Haziq Jamil Delivers International Guest Lecture at UIN Mataram
Our research group continues to expand its global footprint and strengthen international academic ties. Dr. Haziq Jamil, a Research Specialist in the BAYESCOMP team at KAUST, was invited to deliver an online international guest lecture at the Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Mataram in Indonesia.
About
Sharing Expertise in Psychometrics
On April 23, 2026, Dr. Jamil presented "An Introduction to Item Response Theory (IRT) Models" to an audience of faculty and students within the Mathematics Education program. His talk bridged the gap between theoretical probability and practical application, demonstrating how modern psychometric modeling can revolutionize fairness and accuracy in educational assessments. By focusing on the nuances of the 1PL and 2PL logistic model families, Dr. Jamil provided the audience with the tools to better estimate latent abilities and analyze item difficulty.
Advancing Bayesian Innovation
A hallmark of our team’s mission is the advancement of sophisticated computational methods. During the lecture, Dr. Jamil introduced participants to the power of R-INLA for Bayesian 2PL modeling. By exploring latent Gaussian model structures and reproducible workflows, he showcased how our group’s research in Bayesian estimation can be applied to large-scale educational data. This session not only highlighted high-level statistical theory but also focused on the critical issues of validity and Differential Item Functioning (DIF).
Fostering Global Collaboration
This engagement underscores our group’s commitment to being a "globally connected" hub for statistical excellence. Collaborations like these allow us to share the cutting-edge methodologies developed here at KAUST with the international scientific community, fostering a culture of knowledge exchange and impactful research.
